Monte-Carlo Masters Sets the Stage with Final Wild Cards

MONACO โ The clay-court season is officially ready for liftoff. Organizers of the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters have finalized their main draw invitations for the 119th edition of the tournament, crafting a lineup that perfectly balances nostalgic farewells with the dawn of a new era.
Taking place from April 4 to 12 at the iconic Monte-Carlo Country Club, the tournament has awarded its four prestigious singles wild cards to a mix of Grand Slam champions and record-breaking teenagers.
The Farewell Tour: Wawrinka and Monfils
The 2026 season marks the end of an era for two of the sportโs most beloved figures. Both Stan Wawrinka and Gaรซl Monfils have confirmed they will retire at the end of this year, making their appearance in the Principality a final, emotional salute to the Monaco crowd.
- Stan Wawrinka: The 2014 champion returns to the site of one of his greatest triumphs. At nearly 41 years old, “Stan the Man” remains a sentimental favorite, forever remembered for his grueling three-set victory over Roger Federer to claim the Monte-Carlo title a decade ago.
- Gaรซl Monfils: The ultimate showman and 2016 finalist is set for one last dance on the red clay. As one of the few Frenchman to reach the final in the tournamentโs modern history, Monfils’ athleticism and charisma are expected to draw capacity crowds for his final Monte-Carlo appearance.
The Comeback and the Prodigy
While the veterans take their final bows, two other wild card recipients are looking to make a massive statement for the future.
- Matteo Berrettini: After battling through several injury-plagued seasons, the former Wimbledon finalist is on the comeback trail. Currently regaining his top-10 form, Berrettini famously stunned the tennis world in the 2025 edition by defeating World No. 2 Alexander Zverev.
- Moรฏse Kouamรฉ: Representing the next generation is 17-year-old sensation Moรฏse Kouamรฉ. Born in 2009, Kouamรฉ has already made waves in 2026 by reaching a Challenger semi-final and securing his first Masters 1000 win in Miami. This will be his debut on the Monte-Carlo clay.
