PARIS – With the red clay of Porte d’Auteuil meticulously groomed and the iconic Philippe-Chatrier court ready to echo with the thud of yellow felt, the French Tennis Federation (FFT) has officially released the list of wildcard entrants for the 2026 Roland-Garros championships.

The announcement, delivered jointly by FFT President Gilles Moretton, Tournament Director Amélie Mauresmo, and High Performance Director Ivan Ljubicic, paints a fascinating picture of the current tennis landscape. It is a list defined by a bold dual strategy: honoring the “Old Guard” of the sport while aggressively fast-tracking the next generation of teenage prodigies.

The Return of the Titans: Monfils, Wawrinka, and Goffin

Perhaps the most emotional inclusion in the 2026 main draw is the presence of two legends of the game: Gaël Monfils and Stan Wawrinka.

At 39 years old, Gaël “La Monf” Monfils continues to defy the biological clock. Currently ranked No. 222, the Frenchman remains the ultimate showman. His inclusion ensures that the Parisian crowds will have their local hero to rally behind. Monfils’ history at Roland-Garros, including his memorable 2008 semi-final run, makes him a sentimental favorite every time he steps onto the clay.

Joining him is the 41-year-old three-time Grand Slam champion, Stan Wawrinka. The 2015 Roland-Garros champion receives a wildcard as he nears the twilight of a Hall of Fame career. Currently ranked No. 125, “Stan the Man” still possesses one of the most lethal one-handed backhands in the history of the sport. His presence adds a layer of prestige and gravitas to the 2026 entry list.

In the qualifying rounds, another veteran name stands out: David Goffin. The 35-year-old Belgian, a former world No. 7 and Roland-Garros quarter-finalist, will have to navigate the grueling three rounds of qualifying to reach the main draw—a testament to the depth of competition in the modern era.

The “New Wave”: Ksenia Efremova and Moïse Kouame

While the veterans grab the headlines, the FFT is clearly looking toward the future. The most striking names on the list are 17-year-old Ksenia Efremova and 17-year-old Moïse Kouame.

Efremova, despite her ranking of No. 623, is widely considered the “chosen one” of French women’s tennis. Training at the Mouratoglou Academy, her transition to the senior circuit is being watched with immense scrutiny. By granting her a main draw wildcard, the FFT is signaling their total confidence in her ability to compete at the highest level.

On the men’s side, Moïse Kouame represents the pinnacle of the French junior system. At just 17, his inclusion in the main draw is a daring move by Mauresmo and Ljubicic, designed to give the youngster a taste of best-of-five-set tennis on the world’s biggest stage.

The Reciprocity Agreements: Australia and the USA

As is tradition, the wildcard list reflects the long-standing reciprocal agreements between the FFT, Tennis Australia, and the United States Tennis Association (USTA). These agreements allow for a cross-pollination of talent, giving international players a chance to experience the unique challenges of Parisian clay.

Australia’s Emerson Jones (Age 17) and Adam Walton (Age 27) lead the charge from the Southern Hemisphere. Jones, in particular, is a rising star in the Australian ranks and will look to make a splash in the women’s main draw. From the United States, the powerful Akasha Urhobo (Age 19) and Nishesh Basavareddy (Age 21) have been granted direct entry, representing the deep pool of talent currently emerging from American academies.

French Stalwarts and Comeback Stories

The women’s main draw also features familiar French faces who have fought through injury and fluctuating form. Clara Burel (Age 25) remains one of France’s most consistent performers, while Fiona Ferro (Age 29) and Léolia Jeanjean (Age 30) bring veteran experience to the fold.

In the qualifying rounds, the inclusion of Kristina Mladenovic (Age 32) is noteworthy. Once a top-10 singles player and a multi-time doubles champion at Roland-Garros, “Kiki” finds herself ranked No. 852. Her journey through the qualifiers will be one of the most-watched storylines of the opening week, as she attempts to claw her way back to the main stage.

Key Dates for Fans

The tennis action kicks off with the Qualifying Tournament, running from May 18th to May 22nd. This “week of champions in the making” is often where the most dramatic stories are written, as players fight for the final 16 spots in the main draw.

The Main Draw will commence on Sunday, May 24th, culminating in the Women’s Final on June 6th and the Men’s Final on June 7th.

With a mix of legendary champions, hungry qualifiers, and teenage phenoms, Roland-Garros 2026 promises to be a vintage edition of the world’s premier clay-court event. All eyes now turn to the draw ceremony, where these wildcard recipients will find out which of the world’s top seeds they will face in the opening round.
