Star-Studded Line-Up Announced for Guadalajara Open Akron 2025

The excitement is building in Mexico as the Guadalajara Open Akron, presented by Santander, prepares to return from September 8–14, 2025, at the Panamerican Tennis Center. The tournament promises a thrilling week of tennis with a stellar field of international stars ready to light up the hard courts.
Leading the entry list is Emma Navarro, who has already tasted success on Mexican soil after winning the WTA 500 Mérida title. She will be joined by Veronika Kudermetova, a recent semifinalist at the WTA 1000 in Cincinnati. Adding further firepower are Elise Mertens, Jelena Ostapenko, Anna Kalinskaya, and Canadian star Leylah Fernandez, who just captured the WTA 500 Washington crown.
Tournament director and GS Sports Management president Gustavo Santoscoy expressed his enthusiasm for the line-up:
“We will have players of a very high level, and we are sure that a great show awaits us. Because in addition to their good ranking positions, the players who will attend are fully committed to always giving one hundred percent on the court, to leaving everything in search of victory.”
Defending champion Magdalena Frech will return to Guadalajara, alongside Colombian standout Camila Osorio, Magda Linette, Tatjana Maria, Sonay Kartal, and Polina Kudermetova. Osorio is enjoying one of the best stretches of her career, winning this year’s Copa Colsanitas in Bogotá and making headlines by defeating former world No. 1 Naomi Osaka at Indian Wells.
Other notable entrants include:
- Elise Mertens, winner of 10 career singles titles—including two this season—and a doubles powerhouse with 22 trophies to her name.
- Jelena Ostapenko, 2017 Roland Garros champion, who stunned world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in Stuttgart earlier this year.
- Sonay Kartal, the rising British talent who reached Wimbledon’s quarterfinals last year and broke into the top 100 for the first time.
- Zeynep Sonmez, who made history for Turkey by winning the Mérida Open Akron in 2024 and continues to thrive on Mexican courts.
- Maria Sakkari, the 2023 Guadalajara champion and 2022 finalist, who remains a fan favorite despite a recent dip in rankings.
Also confirmed are Americans Peyton Stearns and Alycia Parks, Romanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse, and Russian Kamilla Rakhimova, last year’s doubles finalist.
Santoscoy emphasized that the event is more than just tennis:
“As an organization, we are also committed to giving spectators the best possible experience, because the Guadalajara Open Akron is more than a sporting event.”
Recognized by the WTA as a key stop on the women’s tour, the Guadalajara Open Akron 2025 is set to deliver another unforgettable edition filled with top-level competition and passionate Mexican crowds.
