Charlotte Named New Host City for WTA Finals Beginning in 2027
In a landmark move for professional women’s sports, the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) announced Wednesday that Charlotte, North Carolina, will serve as the host city for the WTA Finals from 2027 through 2029.
The tour’s prestige season-ending event will take place at the Spectrum Center—home of the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets—with complementary programming hosted at the nearby Charlotte Convention Center. As part of the multi-year deal, the WTA will also relocate its global headquarters to Charlotte, cementing the city’s status as a major sports hub.
A Permanent U.S. Anchor for Women’s Tennis
The announcement marks a key transition for the tour’s marquee event, which has moved between various global cities over the last two decades. Following the 2026 WTA Finals in Indian Wells, California, the multi-year partnership in Charlotte provides the tour with a multi-year home in the United States.
“Women’s tennis has spent generations helping push women’s sports forward, and we have an opportunity now to lead again by building a championship experience that reflects just how far women’s sport has come and where it is going next,” said Valerie Camillo, Chair of the WTA. “In Charlotte, we found more than a host city. We found partners who share that ambition and a place where we can build a true home for the Finals and for the WTA.”
The agreement follows a global bidding process. WTA officials highlighted Charlotte’s sports infrastructure, hospitality sector, and public-private partnerships as major deciding factors in selecting the city.
