2027 Adelaide International

January 11, 2027 – January 16, 2027 ACDT

Updated on October 8, 2026

The Adelaide International is a premier professional tennis tournament hosted annually on outdoor hard courts at the historic Memorial Drive Tennis Centre in Adelaide, South Australia. Held each January as a key fixture of the Australian Open Series, it serves as a vital tune-up event for players fine-tuning their games in the immediate lead-up to the season’s first Grand Slam.

Since replacing the Brisbane International on the ATP calendar in 2020, the event has evolved into a joint ATP 250 and WTA 500 tournament, featuring a modernized venue equipped with a sunken arena and a retractable roof structure. Driven by top-tier prize money and valuable ranking points, it routinely attracts world-class fields across both the men’s and women’s draws before players head to Melbourne.

About the Adelaide International

One of Australia’s Premier Tennis Events

The Adelaide International brings professional men’s and women’s tennis to South Australia during the opening weeks of the season. As a combined ATP 250 and WTA 500 tournament, it attracts established champions, rising stars and Australian players looking to perform in front of home crowds.

The event is held at The Drive, a modern tennis venue close to Adelaide’s city centre. Its position immediately before the Australian Open makes it a valuable stop for players preparing for the first Grand Slam of the year.

History and Tournament Origins

Tennis at Memorial Drive has a history stretching back more than a century. The venue was established in 1914, with its grass courts officially opening in 1921. Over the decades, Memorial Drive hosted major Australian tennis events, including national championships and Davis Cup ties.

The modern Adelaide International began in 2020 following major improvements to the venue. Redevelopment included new courts, upgraded spectator facilities and a permanent roof over Centre Court.

Australia’s Ashleigh Barty won the inaugural women’s singles championship in 2020, while Andrey Rublev captured the men’s singles title.

The Drive and Memorial Drive Tennis Centre

The Drive is located on War Memorial Drive in North Adelaide, close to the Adelaide Riverbank and the city’s central business district.

Its redeveloped Centre Court provides a covered main stadium for high-profile matches, while additional courts host tournament matches and practice sessions.

Beyond professional tennis, the venue is used for entertainment, community events and other sporting activities throughout the year.

A Growing Tournament

Adelaide has welcomed major tennis names such as Novak Djokovic, Ashleigh Barty, Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Świątek and Madison Keys. The tournament continues to build its reputation as a popular stop during the Australian summer.

In January 2026, the event attracted a record 60,011 spectators across six days of main-draw competition. The milestone reflected the growing popularity of tennis at The Drive.

Road to the Australian Open

The Adelaide International is one of the final opportunities for players to compete in tour-level matches before the Australian Open.

The 2027 tournament concludes on January 16, with the Australian Open main draw scheduled to begin in Melbourne on January 17.

For players, the tournament provides a chance to improve match fitness, adjust to Australian conditions and build confidence ahead of the Grand Slam.
