About the Hong Kong Tennis Open

A Key Event in the Opening Week

The Bank of China Hong Kong Tennis Open is one of the first men’s professional tennis tournaments of the calendar year. Held at Victoria Park Tennis Centre, the ATP 250 event welcomes international players to compete on outdoor hard courts in the heart of Hong Kong.

With a compact singles draw and competitive doubles field, the tournament offers fans a chance to watch high-level tennis early in the season. It also provides players with valuable match practice and ranking-point opportunities.

Tournament History

Men’s professional tennis in Hong Kong has a history dating back to 1973. The tournament was previously known as the Salem Open and welcomed many of the sport’s biggest names, including Rod Laver, Ken Rosewall, Jim Courier, Pete Sampras, Michael Chang, Andre Agassi and Juan Carlos Ferrero.

After the 2002 edition, Hong Kong disappeared from the regular ATP Tour calendar for more than two decades. The event returned in January 2024 under the Bank of China Hong Kong Tennis Open name, with Andrey Rublev winning the comeback edition.

Alexandre Müller followed in 2025, claiming his first ATP Tour singles title after defeating Kei Nishikori. Alexander Bublik then won the 2026 edition, defeating Lorenzo Musetti in the final.

Victoria Park Tennis Centre

The tournament is played at Victoria Park Tennis Centre in Causeway Bay, one of Hong Kong’s best-known urban sporting venues. Its Centre Court provides a relatively intimate setting, allowing spectators to enjoy professional tennis close to the action.

The venue also includes additional match courts. In previous editions, the tournament operated a public village with a big screen, tennis activities and opportunities for visitors to enjoy the event atmosphere outside the stadium.

Road to the Australian Open

As an opening-week ATP 250 event, Hong Kong is an important stop before the Australian Open. Players can use the outdoor hard-court competition to test their fitness, sharpen their match play and build confidence following the off-season.

The tournament takes place during the same ATP calendar week as the Brisbane International in Australia. Both events form part of the early hard-court swing leading into the first Grand Slam of the season.
