2026 US Open

August 23 September 13 EDT

Updated on August 24, 2026

The US Open of today bears little resemblance to the tournament first contested in 1881. What began as an exclusive men’s singles and doubles event in Newport, Rhode Island, has transformed into a two‑week sports and entertainment showcase held each year in Flushing, New York. With nearly a century and a half of tennis tradition behind it, the tournament draws 128 singles players and 64 doubles teams to the Big Apple, all vying for a place in Grand Slam history.

Since 1978, the event has been staged on the outdoor hard courts of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, a facility featuring three stadiums—headlined by Arthur Ashe Stadium, which seats 23,200 spectators. In the Open Era, Jimmy Connors, Pete Sampras, and Roger Federer share the men’s record for most singles titles with five apiece, while Chris Evert and Serena Williams lead the women with six each. On the doubles side, Martina Navratilova holds the Open‑era mark with nine women’s doubles championships.
