Star-Studded Teams Set for US Open Mixed Doubles Championship

The 2025 US Open Mixed Doubles Championship presented by Vital Proteins is shaping up to be a can’t-miss event, with a field featuring some of the biggest names in tennis. Eight teams have earned direct entry and six have received wild cards for the blockbuster tournament, which will take place on Tuesday, August 19, and Wednesday, August 20.
The reimagined event, now moved to the first week of the US Open to attract top singles players, will award a staggering $1 million in prize money to the winning team. The field of 14 teams announced today includes nine Grand Slam singles champions and eight men and six women ranked in the Top 10 in singles.
Among the notable entries are defending champions Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori, who received a wild card. Additionally, 14-time Grand Slam women’s doubles champion Venus Williams and her partner, Reilly Opelka, will compete. Williams is aiming for a spot in the one Grand Slam final she has yet to reach in singles, doubles, or mixed doubles.
The tournament will feature a 16-team field, with two additional wild cards to be announced later. All matches will be played in Arthur Ashe Stadium or Louis Armstrong Stadium, ensuring a prime viewing experience for fans.

This year’s event has been enhanced to make it even more dynamic and engaging. Matches will be best-of-three-set matches with short sets to four games, no-ad scoring, and tiebreakers at four-all. A 10-point match tiebreak will be played in lieu of a third set. The final will follow a similar format but will be played to six games with tiebreakers at six-all.
The USTA also announced that Vital Proteins will be the presenting sponsor of the championship, becoming the “Official Collagen of the US Open.” The brand will have a significant presence during the event, including on-site product sampling and other fan activations.
With its new format, increased prize money, and a roster of top players, this year’s US Open Mixed Doubles Championship is poised to become a marquee event. The action will be broadcast on ESPN properties, with coverage on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET on ESPN2 and 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. ET on ESPNews.
