The Kickoff: Free Tennis for Everyone!

Friday, January 2nd & Saturday, January 3rd

The tournament officially kicks off right after New Year’s Day, and the organizers are starting with a treat. The first two days—Friday the 2nd and Saturday the 3rd—are dedicated to the Qualifying rounds.

Here is the best part: Entry is free!

If you want to catch up-and-coming stars fighting for a spot in the main draw, this is your chance to do it without spending a dime. The gates open at 9:30 am on both days, with play starting at 10 am. It’s a perfect, low-stress way to ease into the tennis season.

Sunday Funday

Sunday, January 4th

Things heat up on Sunday, January 4th, which is officially dubbed “Family Fun Day.” This is when the Main Draw action begins.

If you grab a Ground Pass, you can catch the final Qualifying matches or the First Round Singles starting at 11 am. For those heading into the Pat Rafter Arena, doors open at 10:30 am for an 11 am start. It’s a massive day of tennis that runs until approximately 7 pm—perfect for wearing the kids out before Monday!

The Main Draw Grinds into Gear

Monday, January 5th – Thursday, January 8th

From Monday through Thursday, the tournament settles into its classic rhythm. We get into the thick of the First, Second, and Third Round Singles matches.

The schedule splits into two distinct vibes:

  • Day Sessions: These start at 11 am sharp. It’s perfect for soaking up the Queensland sun while watching players battle it out in the early rounds.
  • Night Sessions: This is where the magic often happens. Starting on Monday the 5th, the Pat Rafter Arena lights up for the evening crowd. Gates for the night session open at 4:30 pm, with the first ball hit around 6:30 pm. These sessions are scheduled to wrap up around 11 pm, giving you plenty of late-night drama.

Note for the super-fans: Thursday, January 8th is particularly juicy as it features Second and Third Round singles. This is usually when the top seeds face their first real tests, so keep an eye on tickets for this day!

The Business End: Quarterfinals and Semis

Friday, January 9th & Saturday, January 10th

By Friday, we are down to the elite. The Quarterfinals for both Men’s and Women’s Singles take over the Pat Rafter Arena. The Day Session (11 am start) and Night Session (6:30 pm start) split ensures a full day of high-stakes matches.

Saturday, January 10th is Semifinal Saturday! The Day Session will feature the Women’s Singles Semifinals and one of the Men’s Singles Semis. Come back for the Night Session to catch the other Men’s Singles Semifinal and the Women’s Doubles Final.

Championship Sunday: The Grand Finale

Sunday, January 11th

This is it—the day champions are crowned. Unlike the rest of the week, Sunday operates on a “Twilight Session” schedule.

  • Gates Open: 12:30 pm
  • Arena Doors: 1:30 pm
  • Play Starts: 2:00 pm

It is a stacked lineup featuring the Men’s Doubles Final, followed by the Women’s Singles Final and the Men’s Singles Final. The action is expected to wrap up around 9 pm, leaving you just enough time to celebrate (or recover) before the work week begins.

A Few Helpful Tips

Just a quick heads-up: this schedule is provisional, meaning it’s a draft and subject to change (weather and match lengths can always throw a curveball!). Also, remember that finish times are approximate; if a match turns into a five-set epic, you might be staying up a little later than planned—but that’s the beauty of tennis, right?

So, who are you hoping to see at Pat Rafter Arena in 2026? Start messaging your tennis group chat now, because January will be here before you know it!
