2026 Mutua Madrid Open – Tuesday April 28 Order of Play (R16 & QF)

The tension is palpable at the Caja Mágica! As we head into Tuesday, April 28, the 2026 Mutua Madrid Open has reached the business end of the tournament. Today’s schedule is particularly special, featuring the high-stakes ATP Round of 16 and the start of the WTA Quarterfinals.

Adding to the excitement this year, players have been raving about the new practice facilities at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, but today, all roads lead back to Park Manzanares for some of the most anticipated matchups of the clay season.

Heavy Hitters at Manolo Santana Stadium

The day starts at 11:00 AM with the man of the hour, Jannik Sinner. The Italian superstar has looked nearly untouchable, but he faces a crafty opponent in Britain’s Cameron Norrie. If you like long, tactical rallies, this is the match for you.

Following that, we have a “Next Gen” dream match. Leylah Fernandez takes on the red-hot Mirra Andreeva, who just reached her third Madrid quarterfinal. Both players excel at the chess-match style of clay-court tennis, so expect plenty of drop shots and lobs.

The afternoon session features a fairy-tale story: Spain’s Rafael Jodar is back on center court. After a stunning run, he faces Vit Kopriva for a spot in the final eight. Then, the night session brings the power. Reigning champion Aryna Sabalenka continues her title defense against Hailey Baptiste, followed by an absolute blockbuster: the teenage sensation Jakub Mensik challenging the two-time champion Alexander Zverev.

Arantxa Sanchez Stadium: The “Clay Masters” Rematch

If you’re a fan of classic clay-court tennis, the Arantxa Sanchez Stadium is the place to be. The highlight of the afternoon is undoubtedly Stefanos Tsitsipas versus Casper Ruud. These two have dominated the European clay circuit for years, and seeing them face off in the Round of 16 is a rare treat.

Earlier in the day, the French flare of Arthur Fils meets the grit of Tomas Martin Etcheverry, followed by the elegant Lorenzo Musetti taking on Jiri Lehecka. To close the evening, the ever-entertaining Daniil Medvedev will try to navigate the tricky game of Italy’s Flavio Cobolli.

Doubles Spotlight on Stadium 3

Don’t overlook the doubles action on Stadium 3! We have a fantastic opening match as the veteran duo of Siegemund and Zvonareva take on the Indonesian pair Aldila Sutjiadi and Janice Tjen. Sutjiadi and Tjen have been giant-killers lately, and they’ll need all their chemistry to get past the former Grand Slam champions.
