In 2026, the ATP Tour welcomes a new chapter in French tennis with the inaugural Grand Prix Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes, set to be held in Lyon from 18–25 October on indoor hard courts. The event arrives following the relocation of the long-standing Marseille ATP 250 tournament, which had been a fixture on the calendar from 1993 to 2025. Lyon—France’s third-largest city and a culinary and cultural powerhouse—now steps into the spotlight, adding a fresh yet familiar stop to the Tour’s autumn indoor swing. With this move, France maintains its proud tradition of hosting four ATP tournaments, joining the prestigious ranks of the Rolex Paris Masters, the Open 13 Provence (now rebranded in its new home), and the Moselle Open in Metz.
The Marseille edition, which preceded this transition, owed much of its legacy to Jean-Francois Caujolle, the former player and visionary who championed bringing top-tier tennis to his hometown. His efforts paid off handsomely, as the event became a beloved fixture on the Tour, known for its passionate crowds and competitive fields. Across 33 editions, seven Frenchmen delighted home fans by lifting the trophy: Guy Forget in 1996; Fabrice Santoro in 1999; Arnaud Clément in 2006; Gilles Simon, who claimed victory in both 2007 and 2015; Jo‑Wilfried Tsonga, a three‑time champion in 2009, 2013, and 2017; Michaël Llodra in 2011; and most recently, Ugo Humbert, who captured back‑to‑back titles in 2024 and 2025. As the tournament relocates to Lyon, it carries forward that rich French tennis heritage while embarking on an exciting new era in the heart of the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region.
