2026 Hangzhou Open Final Results: Medvedev Beats Rublev for 24th ATP Title

Daniil Medvedev continued his strong 2026 season by defeating Andrey Rublev 7–5, 6–4 in the Hangzhou Open final on Tuesday, September 29.

The top seed produced an outstanding serving performance, striking 23 aces and only two double faults during the 93-minute championship match. The victory gave Medvedev his 24th ATP Tour singles title and his third trophy of the season after earlier triumphs in Brisbane and Dubai.

The 2026 AITO Hangzhou Open was played from September 23–29 on outdoor hard courts at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Tennis Centre. The ATP 250 tournament featured 28 singles players and 16 doubles teams and offered $1,039,090 in prize money.

Medvedev Beats Rublev to Win 24th ATP Tour Title

The final brought together Hangzhou’s top two seeds and two players who know each other’s games extremely well.

Rublev started aggressively and put pressure on Medvedev early, but the former World No. 1 absorbed that pressure and gradually took control.

The opening set remained on serve until 5–5. Medvedev finally created the breakthrough late in the set and then served it out 7–5.

That momentum immediately carried into the second set.

Medvedev broke Rublev in the opening game and protected that advantage for the remainder of the match. Rublev had chances to get back on serve, but Medvedev’s delivery proved extremely difficult to solve.

The 30-year-old finished with 23 aces, just two double faults and was not broken during the final. He completed the 7–5, 6–4 victory after 93 minutes.

The result improved Medvedev’s head-to-head record against Rublev to 8–2.

Third Title of 2026 for Medvedev

Hangzhou continued Medvedev’s resurgence during the 2026 season.

He began the year by winning in Brisbane and then added the Dubai title in February. Hangzhou became his third title of the year and his first since Dubai.

The trophy was also significant in the wider context of his career.

Medvedev now owns 24 ATP Tour singles titles, with 22 of them coming on hard courts. That hard-court total moves him level with Michael Chang, Stefan Edberg and John McEnroe among Open Era title winners.

His 2026 record improved to 38–16, including 27 victories on hard courts. Following Hangzhou, he remained eighth in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin as he continued his push to return to the Nitto ATP Finals.

Medvedev missed qualification for Turin in 2025, ending a run of appearances at the season-ending championships dating back to 2019.

Daniil Medvedev’s Road to the Hangzhou Title

As the No. 1 seed, Medvedev received a first-round bye.

Medvedev began his campaign against 2025 Hangzhou finalist Valentin Royer. He hit 16 aces and saved all five break points he faced in a 7–6(6), 6–3 victory.

His toughest match came against Hong Kong’s Coleman Wong in the quarterfinals.

Medvedev won the opening set 6–3, but Wong forced a deciding set after taking the second-set tie-break. The top seed eventually regained control and completed a 6–3, 6–7(2), 6–3 victory, hitting 18 aces and saving five of six break points.

Medvedev then defeated Roman Safiullin 7–5, 6–4 in the semifinals. The victory was also the 350th hard-court win of his career, according to ATP statistics.

He completed the title run by beating Rublev without dropping serve.

Rublev Reaches 400 Career Wins

Although Rublev was unable to take the trophy, his Hangzhou run included a significant career milestone.

The No. 2 seed defeated Rinky Hijikata 6–3, 6–3 in his opening match before surviving an eventful quarterfinal against Hugo Gaston.

Rublev lost the opening set but recovered to win 6–7(6), 7–6(4), 6–1.

In the semifinals, he defeated Frenchman Kyrian Jacquet 7–6(0), 6–1.

That win was Rublev’s 400th tour-level singles victory, making him the ninth active ATP player at the time to reach that mark.

It sent Rublev into his third final of the season. He had already won the Bastad title earlier in 2026, but Medvedev proved too strong in Hangzhou.

Medvedev Extends His Advantage Over Rublev

The Hangzhou championship match was the 10th tour-level meeting between Medvedev and Rublev.

Medvedev entered the final leading their ATP head-to-head 7–2 and extended that advantage to 8–2 with Tuesday’s victory. Their previous meeting had come at the 2023 ATP Finals.

The pair are close friends away from competition, adding another layer to their latest championship match.

Medvedev acknowledged that familiarity after the victory, saying matches against Rublev carry a little extra significance but that he felt he handled the important moments well.

Cabral and Tracy Win First Title Together

Francisco Cabral and JJ Tracy completed a perfect week in the doubles draw by defeating Sander Arends and David Pel 7–5, 6–4 in the championship match.

The Portuguese-American combination did not lose a set during the entire tournament.

Their run included victories over Fajing Sun and Zhizhen Zhang in the first round, Santiago Gonzalez and Hendrik Jebens in the quarterfinals and Jean-Julien Rojer and Theodore Winegar in the semifinals.

Cabral and Tracy arrived in Hangzhou having played only a handful of tournaments together, although they had already reached the third round at the US Open earlier in September.

The title was their first ATP Tour trophy as a partnership.

For Cabral, it marked his seventh tour-level doubles title and second of the 2026 season after winning Brisbane alongside Lucas Miedler.

Tracy, meanwhile, collected his third ATP Tour doubles title, having also won Marrakech with Robert Cash earlier in the season.

Cabral Successfully Defends Hangzhou Crown

There was another interesting storyline behind the doubles victory.

Cabral was also a Hangzhou champion in 2025, when he partnered Lucas Miedler. The pair defeated Nicolas Barrientos and David Pel 6–4, 6–4 in that final.

Miedler returned in 2026 with Quentin Halys but was eliminated before the semifinals.

Cabral therefore managed to successfully defend his Hangzhou doubles title — this time with Tracy as his partner.

Defending Singles Champion Bublik Does Not Return

Alexander Bublik won the 2025 Hangzhou Open after defeating Valentin Royer 7–6(4), 7–6(4) in the championship match.

He did not defend the title in 2026, instead competing for Team World at the Laver Cup in London during the same week.

That guaranteed Hangzhou would crown a new singles champion for the third consecutive edition following Marin Cilic in 2024 and Bublik in 2025.

Medvedev became the tournament’s third singles champion.

2026 Hangzhou Open Prize Money and ATP Points

The 2026 Hangzhou Open offered $1,039,090 in total prize money.

Medvedev received $158,065 and 250 ATP ranking points for winning the singles title. Rublev earned $92,200 and 165 points as runner-up.

For Medvedev, Hangzhou provided another sign of a strong return to form. He leaves China with his third title of 2026, 24th ATP Tour title overall and 22nd hard-court trophy, while remaining firmly in the race for a return to the ATP Finals in Turin.

Cabral and Tracy, meanwhile, completed an undefeated straight-sets run through the doubles draw, giving Cabral consecutive Hangzhou titles with two different partners.
