Stockholm Open 2026 Singles Draw Preview

The singles draw includes eight seeded players. The top four seeds receive first-round byes and begin their campaigns in the round of 16.

Top Quarter: Fritz Leads, Rune Faces Bergs

Top seed Taylor Fritz heads the opening section of the draw and receives a first-round bye.

The American will face either Australia’s James Duckworth or Britain’s Cameron Norrie in the second round.

Fritz’s powerful serve and attacking baseline game could be particularly effective on Stockholm’s indoor hard courts. However, his section contains several experienced opponents.

France’s Arthur Rinderknech meets Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanović in another opening-round match.

One of the most interesting encounters features Holger Rune against eighth seed Zizou Bergs.

Rune won the Stockholm title in 2022 but returns to the tournament under different circumstances following a serious Achilles injury sustained during his 2025 semifinal against Ugo Humbert.

The Danish player is unseeded this year, making him a dangerous opponent for Bergs and potentially other seeded players.

First-round matchups:

  • Taylor Fritz (1) — Bye
  • James Duckworth vs. Cameron Norrie
  • Arthur Rinderknech vs. Miomir Kecmanović
  • Holger Rune vs. Zizou Bergs (8)

If the seeds advance, Fritz and Bergs could meet in the quarterfinals. Rune, however, has an opportunity to disrupt that expected matchup.

Second Quarter: Musetti and Humbert Headline the Section

Third seed Lorenzo Musetti anchors the second quarter of the singles draw.

The Italian receives a first-round bye and awaits the winner of the match between Swedish wildcard Leo Borg and a qualifier.

Borg, the son of Swedish tennis legend Björn Borg, will have strong local support as he attempts to make an impact in front of the Stockholm crowd.

Elsewhere, Czech player Tomáš Macháč faces a qualifier, while seventh seed Ugo Humbert begins against Paraguay’s Adolfo Daniel Vallejo.

Humbert has positive memories of Stockholm after reaching the 2025 final. He will be looking to repeat that strong performance and potentially go one step further.

First-round matchups:

  • Lorenzo Musetti (3) — Bye
  • Leo Borg (WC) vs. Qualifier
  • Tomáš Macháč vs. Qualifier
  • Adolfo Daniel Vallejo vs. Ugo Humbert (7)

A potential Musetti-Humbert quarterfinal would bring together two players with contrasting styles.

However, Macháč could also pose a challenge in this section, while Borg will hope to produce an upset on home soil.

Third Quarter: Michelsen, Tabilo and Swedish Hope Elias Ymer

The third quarter features sixth seed Alex Michelsen and fourth seed Alejandro Tabilo.

Michelsen begins against Germany’s Yannick Hanfmann in what could be a competitive first-round contest.

Swedish wildcard Elias Ymer faces Argentina’s Juan Manuel Cerúndolo in another notable matchup.

Ymer reached the quarterfinals in Stockholm in 2025 and will hope to build on that performance with the support of the home crowd.

The winner of Ymer’s match will face either Michelsen or Hanfmann in the round of 16.

Meanwhile, France’s Quentin Halys faces a qualifier, with the winner advancing to meet Tabilo, who receives a first-round bye.

First-round matchups:

  • Alex Michelsen (6) vs. Yannick Hanfmann
  • Elias Ymer (WC) vs. Juan Manuel Cerúndolo
  • Qualifier vs. Quentin Halys
  • Alejandro Tabilo (4) — Bye

Tabilo and Michelsen are the leading seeds in this section, but Hanfmann and Halys have the experience to make the draw competitive.

For Swedish fans, Ymer’s opening encounter is one of the most anticipated matches of the early rounds.

Bottom Quarter: Defending Champion Ruud Returns

Casper Ruud begins his title defense as the second seed.

The Norwegian receives a first-round bye and will meet either France’s Luca Van Assche or a qualifier in his opening match.

Ruud captured the 2025 Stockholm title with an impressive straight-sets victory over Ugo Humbert. His consistency and ability to adapt to indoor conditions helped him become the first Norwegian singles champion in the tournament’s history.

Fifth seed Tomás Martín Etcheverry is also in this quarter.

The Argentine faces Swedish wildcard Max Dahlin, who is making his Stockholm Open singles main-draw debut.

Another interesting contest features Argentina’s Thiago Agustín Tirante against Spain’s Jaume Munar.

First-round matchups:

  • Tomás Martín Etcheverry (5) vs. Max Dahlin (WC)
  • Thiago Agustín Tirante vs. Jaume Munar
  • Luca Van Assche vs. Qualifier
  • Casper Ruud (2) — Bye

Ruud and Etcheverry are the highest-seeded players in the section and could meet in the quarterfinals.

However, Munar and Van Assche will be looking to challenge that expected outcome.

Stockholm Open 2026 Singles Matches to Watch

Several opening-round encounters stand out from the draw.

Holger Rune vs. Zizou Bergs (8)

Rune’s return is one of the major stories of the tournament. The 2022 champion faces a seeded opponent immediately, creating an intriguing test of his form following injury.

James Duckworth vs. Cameron Norrie

Both players have considerable experience on hard courts. The winner will earn a second-round meeting with top seed Taylor Fritz.

Alex Michelsen (6) vs. Yannick Hanfmann

Michelsen’s aggressive game will be tested by the experienced German in a potentially close contest.

Elias Ymer (WC) vs. Juan Manuel Cerúndolo

Ymer has the opportunity to produce another memorable Stockholm performance. His opening match will attract significant attention from local supporters.

Tomás Martín Etcheverry (5) vs. Max Dahlin (WC)

Dahlin makes his main-draw debut against one of the tournament’s seeded players. It will be an important opportunity for the Swedish youngster to gain experience at ATP Tour level.

Stockholm Open 2026 Doubles Draw Preview

The doubles competition features 16 teams, including four seeded pairs and two Swedish wildcard teams.

Nikola Mektić and Édouard Roger-Vasselin lead the draw as the top seeds, while Marc Polmans and Jan Zieliński are seeded second.

Top Seeds Mektić and Roger-Vasselin Lead the Upper Half

Croatia’s Nikola Mektić and France’s Édouard Roger-Vasselin open their campaign against Robert Cash and Alexander Erler.

Erler was one of the 2025 doubles champions alongside Robert Galloway. This year, the Austrian partners with Cash instead.

Third seeds Jakob Schnaitter and Mark Wallner are also in the upper half. The German duo face Czech players Adam Pavlásek and Patrik Rikl.

Another team to watch is N. Sriram Balaji and Evan King, who begin against Sander Arends and Luke Johnson.

The upper half also includes Swedish wildcard pair William Rejchtman Vinciguerra and Olle Wallin, who face Jean-Julien Rojer and Theodore Winegar.

Polmans and Zieliński Headline the Bottom Half

Second seeds Marc Polmans and Jan Zieliński begin against Robert Galloway and Swedish player André Göransson.

Galloway is the other member of the defending doubles championship team, meaning neither of last year’s winners is returning with the same partner.

Fourth seeds Sadio Doumbia and David Pel face Swedish wildcards Erik Grevelius and Adam Heinonen.

Other teams in the bottom half include Miomir Kecmanović and Marcelo Melo, Constantin Frantzen and Bart Stevens, and Petr Nouza and Michael Venus.

The Nouza-Venus partnership enters the draw using a protected ranking.

In doubles, the wildcard teams are William Rejchtman Vinciguerra / Olle Wallin and Erik Grevelius / Adam Heinonen.

Potential Stockholm Open 2026 Quarterfinals and Semifinals

Based on the positions of the seeded players, the projected singles quarterfinals are:

QF 3Alex Michelsen (6) vs. Alejandro Tabilo (4)
QF 4Tomás Martín Etcheverry (5) vs. Casper Ruud (2)

If the four highest seeds advance, the semifinals would feature Fritz against Musetti and Tabilo against Ruud.

A final between Fritz and Ruud is therefore possible, although several dangerous unseeded players could change the expected outcome.

These are projected matchups based on the draw, not confirmed fixtures.

Final Thoughts

The Stockholm Open 2026 draw offers several compelling storylines as the ATP season approaches its conclusion.

Taylor Fritz enters as the top seed, while Casper Ruud has the opportunity to defend the title he won in 2025.

Lorenzo Musetti and Alejandro Tabilo provide additional challenges among the leading seeds, and Ugo Humbert hopes to build on last year’s runner-up finish.

However, one of the most interesting stories will be Holger Rune’s return. The former champion faces a difficult opening match against Zizou Bergs as he looks to make a successful comeback in Stockholm.

With three Swedish wildcards in singles and two home teams in doubles, local fans will also have plenty of players to support throughout the tournament.
