Men’s Singles: Sinner Wins Second China Open Title

Jannik Sinner produced another dominant performance in Beijing, defeating 19-year-old American Learner Tien 6–2, 6–2 in the men’s singles final on October 1.

The Italian needed just 72 minutes to claim his second China Open title, following his first victory in 2023. He became only the third man to win multiple Beijing singles titles, joining Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.

The victory was Sinner’s third ATP title of 2025 and the 21st tour-level singles title of his career.

Sinner entered the tournament looking to bounce back from his defeat to Carlos Alcaraz in the US Open final. He had already enjoyed an outstanding season, winning the Australian Open and Wimbledon.

In Beijing, the top seed showed his consistency and attacking ability throughout the tournament. He overcame a challenging semifinal against Alex de Minaur before producing his best tennis in the championship match.

Against Tien, Sinner controlled the rallies from the baseline, struck 24 winners, and saved both break points he faced. His powerful groundstrokes and accurate serving prevented the American from finding a consistent rhythm.

For Tien, reaching his first ATP Tour final was an important achievement.

The young American defeated Lorenzo Musetti earlier in the tournament before advancing past Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals. Medvedev retired with Tien leading 5–7, 7–5, 4–0 after struggling physically in the deciding set.

Although Tien could not match Sinner in the final, his run made him the second-youngest men’s singles finalist in China Open history.

The result also helped Tien rise to a new career-high ranking, underlining his emergence as one of the most promising young players on the ATP Tour.

Women’s Singles: Anisimova Claims Second WTA 1000 Title of 2025

Amanda Anisimova continued her impressive comeback season by defeating Czech star Linda Nosková 6–0, 2–6, 6–2 in the women’s singles final on October 5.

The 24-year-old American secured her second WTA 1000 title of 2025, having won her first in Doha in February.

The Beijing triumph was also the fourth WTA singles title of her career.

Anisimova entered the final after a convincing 6–1, 6–2 semifinal victory over defending champion Coco Gauff. She needed just 58 minutes to defeat her fellow American and end Gauff’s title defense.

Her journey to the final also included difficult three-set victories over Karolína Muchová and Jasmine Paolini.

A Three-Set Battle Against Nosková

Anisimova made a perfect start to the final, winning the opening six games to take the first set 6–0 in just 23 minutes.

However, Nosková responded strongly in the second set. The 20-year-old Czech broke Anisimova’s serve early and maintained her advantage to win the set 6–2.

With the championship on the line, Anisimova regained her confidence in the deciding set.

The turning point came when Nosková served at 2–3. Anisimova secured an important break and went on to win the final four games, sealing victory with a powerful backhand winner.

The match lasted one hour and 46 minutes.

Anisimova became the third American woman to win the China Open singles title, joining Serena Williams and Coco Gauff. She was also the first American to win multiple WTA 1000 titles in a single season since Serena Williams in 2015.

Nosková Enjoys a Career-Best Run

Despite losing the final, Linda Nosková enjoyed one of the most important tournaments of her young career.

The Czech reached her first WTA 1000 final after defeating Jessica Pegula 6–3, 1–6, 7–6(6) in a dramatic semifinal.

Nosková saved three match points while Pegula was serving for the match, then held her nerve in the deciding tiebreak.

Her impressive campaign helped her reach a career-high world No. 17 ranking, making her the highest-ranked Czech woman at the time.

For Anisimova, the Beijing title was another highlight of an outstanding season that included runner-up finishes at Wimbledon and the US Open.

She had already secured her first qualification for the WTA Finals in Riyadh during her quarterfinal victory over Paolini.

Following the China Open, Anisimova remained world No. 4 and moved ahead of Gauff into third place in the Race to the WTA Finals.

Men’s Doubles: Heliovaara and Patten Win Beijing Title

Harri Heliovaara of Finland and Henry Patten of Great Britain claimed the men’s doubles championship with a hard-fought 4–6, 6–3, [10–8] victory over Karen Khachanov and Andrey Rublev.

The third-seeded pair completed their comeback in one hour and 30 minutes, securing their second ATP doubles title of the season.

Khachanov and Rublev made the stronger start, winning the opening set 6–4. Their powerful serving and aggressive returns put pressure on the Finnish-British partnership.

However, Heliovaara and Patten improved their performance in the second set. They earned a crucial break of serve late in the set and held on to force a deciding match tiebreak.

The championship was decided by just a few points.

With the match tiebreak level at 6–6, Heliovaara and Patten won three consecutive points to create championship opportunities. Although their opponents saved two match points, the third seeds eventually sealed the victory 10–8.

The result gave Heliovaara and Patten their first China Open title, adding another important achievement to a partnership that had already won the Australian Open earlier in 2025.

Their success in Beijing also secured their qualification for the season-ending ATP Finals.

Women’s Doubles: Errani and Paolini Make China Open History

Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini completed a historic title defense by winning the women’s doubles final on October 5.

The Italian pair defeated Japan’s Miyu Kato and Hungary’s Fanny Stollár 6–7(1), 6–3, [10–2] in one hour and 34 minutes.

With the victory, Errani and Paolini became the first team to successfully defend the China Open women’s doubles title.

Their success marked their third WTA 1000 doubles title of 2025, following earlier triumphs in Doha and Rome.

Another Comeback Victory for the Italians

The final began with a tightly contested opening set.

Neither team managed to break serve, forcing a tiebreak that Kato and Stollár dominated 7–1.

Errani and Paolini responded in the second set, using their experience and strong teamwork to take control. They converted two break-point opportunities while keeping their own service games secure.

The Italians carried their momentum into the deciding match tiebreak, racing to a 4–0 lead before extending their advantage to 9–2.

They eventually closed out the match 10–2 to complete their comeback.

The Beijing championship was the pair’s fourth title of 2025, including their French Open triumph.

Over the previous 16 months, Errani and Paolini had won a Grand Slam doubles title, Olympic gold at the Paris 2024 Games, and five WTA 1000 doubles titles.

Their Beijing victory further strengthened their position among the leading doubles teams in women’s tennis.

For Errani, it was her 36th career WTA doubles title, while Paolini celebrated the 10th doubles title of her career.

The Italian pair had also qualified for the WTA Finals in Riyadh.

The 2025 China Open brought together established champions and emerging talents, delivering exciting matches across both the ATP and WTA competitions.

Sinner’s dominant victory highlighted his continued excellence on hard courts, while Anisimova’s second WTA 1000 triumph confirmed her return to the highest level of women’s tennis.

Meanwhile, the breakthrough performances of Learner Tien and Linda Nosková showed the strength of the next generation.
