How Does the Rotterdam Open Work?

The ABN AMRO Open is an ATP Tour 500 tournament. It sits between the ATP 250 events and the ATP Masters 1000 tournaments in the men’s professional tennis hierarchy.

The main singles draw features 32 players, while the doubles competition features 16 teams. The tournament is played on indoor hard courts, making it one of the important hard-court events during the European indoor swing.

The singles champion receives 500 ATP ranking points. Players earn progressively fewer points depending on how far they advance through the draw.

The indoor environment also creates conditions that can favour aggressive tennis. Fast serves, first-strike tennis and strong return games are particularly important in Rotterdam, while the enclosed arena removes the influence of outdoor weather conditions.

2026 PRIZE MONEY

€2.46 Million Prize Money on Offer

The 2026 ABN AMRO Open featured a total prize pool of approximately €2.46 million. The singles champion received €460,555, according to the tournament’s official history page.

The prize money is distributed across the singles and doubles competitions, with players earning payouts according to their round reached.

More Than Just an ATP Tennis Tournament

One of the defining characteristics of the ABN AMRO Open is its emphasis on the overall fan experience. The tournament is designed as a full-day event rather than simply a series of tennis matches.

Fans can take part in tennis clinics, meet-and-greets, sports challenges and other activities around Rotterdam Ahoy. The tournament also features shops, restaurants and entertainment throughout the venue.

The Sports Plaza is another part of the event experience, offering activities for visitors of different ages and skill levels. Fans can test their serve speed, participate in tennis activities and enjoy interactive experiences.

The wheelchair tournament has become an important part of the event, featuring some of the world’s best wheelchair players. The tournament has also expanded its wheelchair tennis program to include both men’s and women’s competitions.

Why Is the Rotterdam Open Important?

The ABN AMRO Open is important because of its combination of history, competitive level and location. As an ATP 500 tournament, it attracts players who are competing for valuable ranking points and one of the most respected titles of the European indoor season.

Its history also sets it apart. Few ATP tournaments can match Rotterdam’s connection with multiple generations of tennis legends, from Arthur Ashe and Björn Borg to Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.

The tournament’s indoor setting adds another dimension. Players must adapt to controlled conditions and a hard court environment where serving and aggressive baseline tennis can be particularly effective.
