2026 China Open Final Results: Djokovic Wins 102nd ATP Title in Beijing
Novak Djokovic captured a record-extending seventh China Open title after Alex de Minaur retired with a groin injury following a first-set tie-break in the Beijing final. The victory gave Djokovic his 102nd ATP Tour title and extended his perfect China Open record to 34–0. In men’s doubles, British duo Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool defeated Sander Arends and David Pel 6–3, 3–6, [10–6] to win their third title of the 2026 season.
Novak Djokovic returned to Beijing after an 11-year absence and picked up exactly where he left off, winning a record-extending seventh China Open singles title on Tuesday, October 6.
The 39-year-old Serbian won the opening set against Alex de Minaur 7–6(3) before the Australian required treatment for a groin problem. De Minaur returned with his left thigh heavily strapped, held serve in the opening game of the second set and then retired, handing Djokovic his 102nd tour-level title.
The men’s ATP 500 event was played on outdoor hard courts at the National Tennis Center in Beijing, with a 32-player singles draw and 16-team doubles field. The ATP competition carried $4,089,385 in prize money in 2026.

Djokovic Wins His Seventh China Open Title
Eleven years passed between Djokovic’s sixth and seventh Beijing titles, but his record at the China Open remains perfect.
He last competed in Beijing in 2015, when he defeated Rafael Nadal to win his sixth trophy. His return in 2026 ultimately extended his extraordinary tournament record to 34 wins and no defeats.
The final, however, ended in unfortunate circumstances.
De Minaur repeatedly used his speed and willingness to attack to challenge one of the greatest defensive players in tennis history. Djokovic was forced to work hard throughout an evenly contested opening set and even had to save a break point at 2–2.
Neither player managed to establish a decisive advantage before the set reached a tie-break.
Djokovic then raised his level at exactly the right time, taking the breaker 7–3.
Both players requested medical attention after the set. De Minaur left the court for treatment on his groin before returning with heavy strapping around his left thigh. He held serve for 1–0 in the second set but was unable to continue.
It was an anticlimactic ending to a competitive final, but the victory completed another remarkable Beijing campaign for Djokovic.
102 ATP Titles — and Closing In on Federer
The China Open trophy was the 102nd tour-level singles title of Djokovic’s career.
That leaves him only one behind Roger Federer’s 103 titles in the Open Era and seven behind Jimmy Connors’ record of 109.
| Player | Tour-Level Singles Titles |
|---|---|
| Jimmy Connors | 109 |
| Roger Federer | 103 |
| Novak Djokovic | 102 |
Beijing also delivered another longevity record.
Djokovic became the first man in the Open Era to win at least one tour-level singles title in 21 consecutive seasons.
The Serbian’s first tour-level title came in Amersfoort in 2006. Two decades later, he is still winning ATP trophies.
Djokovic’s Perfect Beijing Record Reaches 34–0
Djokovic already owned one of the most remarkable tournament records on the ATP Tour before returning to Beijing.
He won China Open titles in:
- 2009
- 2010
- 2012
- 2013
- 2014
- 2015
- 2026
His victory over Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals also pushed his opening record at a single tour-level tournament beyond Rafael Nadal’s previous benchmark of 31 consecutive wins from his debut at Roland Garros.
By the end of the tournament, Djokovic had stretched his Beijing record to 34–0.
Novak Djokovic’s Road to the 2026 China Open Title
Djokovic’s route to the championship featured everything from straightforward wins to comebacks, physical struggles and an extraordinary semifinal ending.
| Round | Opponent | Result |
|---|---|---|
| First Round | Nuno Borges (POR) | 6–3, 7–6(2) |
| Second Round | Bu Yunchaokete (CHN) | 4–6, 7–6(2), 6–2 |
| Quarterfinal | Alexander Zverev [1] (GER) | 4–6, 6–4, 6–4 |
| Semifinal | Daniil Medvedev [3] | 7–5, 5–3, default |
| Final | Alex de Minaur [5] (AUS) | 7–6(3), 0–1 ret. |
Djokovic began his tournament by defeating Nuno Borges 6–3, 7–6(2). That win lifted his China Open record to 30–0.
His second match was considerably more difficult.
Home favorite Bu Yunchaokete took the opening set, while Djokovic again required medical attention during a physically demanding contest. The Serbian eventually recovered to win 4–6, 7–6(2), 6–2, extending his unbeaten Beijing run to 31 matches.
Djokovic Comes Back to Beat Zverev
The quarterfinal against top seed Alexander Zverev became one of the matches of the tournament.
Zverev took the first set 6–4, putting Djokovic’s undefeated Beijing record under serious threat.
But the Serbian repeatedly found his best tennis late in sets.
Djokovic broke Zverev at 5–4 to take the second set and did exactly the same in the deciding set, completing a 4–6, 6–4, 6–4 comeback after two hours and 35 minutes.
The victory moved him into a semifinal against Daniil Medvedev.
Extraordinary Ending to Djokovic-Medvedev Semifinal
The semifinal produced one of the most unusual endings of the 2026 ATP season.
Djokovic was leading Medvedev 7–5, 5–3 when the Russian hit a ball in frustration. The ball rebounded into the crowd and struck a spectator in the eye.
Medvedev was defaulted from the match.
The former US Open champion later said the incident was unintentional and expressed a desire to apologize personally to the spectator. Djokovic also expressed sympathy for both Medvedev and the injured fan.
The default sent Djokovic into his seventh Beijing final — and preserved his perfect tournament record.
De Minaur’s Strong Week Ends in Injury
De Minaur’s route to the final was also impressive.
The Australian entered as the No. 5 seed and came through a difficult quarterfinal against Andrey Rublev, recovering from a one-sided opening set to win 1–6, 6–2, 6–3.
His semifinal against Hubert Hurkacz also ended prematurely.
De Minaur led 6–4, 3–2 when Hurkacz was forced to retire with an adductor injury, sending the Australian into the championship match.
Unfortunately for De Minaur, injury then affected the final in the opposite direction.
After fighting Djokovic through the opening-set tie-break, the Australian’s groin problem prevented him from completing the match.
China Open Boosts Djokovic’s Turin Chances
The title also came at an important moment in Djokovic’s bid to return to the Nitto ATP Finals.
Before Beijing, his qualification position was uncertain following a season disrupted by physical and health issues.
His 500-point title run moved him six places to ninth in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin, putting him 140 points ahead of De Minaur immediately after the Beijing final.
For Djokovic, Beijing therefore delivered far more than another entry in his record book.
It also put him firmly back into the battle for a place at the season-ending championships.
Cash and Glasspool Win Men’s Doubles Title
Britain also enjoyed a championship celebration in Beijing.
Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool defeated Dutch pair Sander Arends and David Pel 6–3, 3–6, [10–6] to capture the men’s doubles crown.
The victory made Cash and Glasspool the first all-British doubles team to win the China Open.
The second seeds entered the championship match having not dropped a set all week.
They immediately carried that form into the final.
Cash and Glasspool broke early in the opening set, won 80% of their first-serve points and saved both break points they faced before wrapping up the set 6–3 in 33 minutes.
Arends and Pel responded strongly in the second.
The Dutch pair converted their only break opportunity and saved two break points of their own to take the set 6–3, forcing a deciding Match Tie-break.
British Pair Take Control in Match Tie-Break
Cash and Glasspool quickly reasserted themselves in the decider.
The British pair raced ahead 8–4 and held their nerve from there, closing out the Match Tie-break 10–6 and completing the victory after one hour and 18 minutes.
The result gave them their third ATP title of the 2026 season.
Their three titles have all come at ATP 500 level:
- Barcelona Open
- Washington
- China Open
It was also the 11th ATP title they have won together.
The partnership already owns a Grand Slam title after winning Wimbledon in 2025.
Cash and Glasspool’s Road to the Beijing Title
The British team did not drop a set before the championship match.
| Round | Opponents | Result |
|---|---|---|
| First Round | Karen Khachanov / Andrey Rublev | 6–3, 6–4 |
| Quarterfinal | Alexander Zverev / Marcelo Melo | 6–2, 6–4 |
| Semifinal | Robert Cash / Alexander Erler | 6–1, 7–6(2) |
| Final | Sander Arends / David Pel | 6–3, 3–6, [10–6] |
Their semifinal was particularly impressive.
Cash and Glasspool defeated Robert Cash and Alexander Erler 6–1, 7–6(2) to reach the final without losing a set.
They then survived their first lost set of the week against Arends and Pel to finish the tournament as champions.
Beijing Title Keeps Cash and Glasspool in Turin Hunt
Like Djokovic, the British champions also strengthened their chances of reaching Turin.
Following the China Open title, Cash and Glasspool moved to 10th in the PIF ATP Live Doubles Teams Rankings.
They were just 310 points behind ninth-placed Theo Arribage and Albano Olivetti, leaving them within striking distance of qualification for the Nitto ATP Finals during the final weeks of the season.
The pair qualified for Turin together in 2025 and will now attempt to reach the season finale for a second consecutive year.
Defending Champions Absent in Beijing
Neither of the 2025 men’s champions defended his title in Beijing.
Reigning singles champion Jannik Sinner withdrew because of an ongoing knee injury, opening the door for a new champion.
In doubles, 2025 champions Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten did not compete.
Djokovic ultimately reclaimed the tournament he had dominated more than a decade earlier, while Cash and Glasspool became Beijing champions for the first time.
2026 China Open ATP Prize Money and Ranking Points
The men’s China Open offered $4,089,385 in total ATP prize money in 2026. Djokovic earned $764,750 and 500 ranking points, while De Minaur received $411,480 and 330 points as runner-up.
