Shanghai Masters 2026

The Rolex Shanghai Masters 2026 brings the ATP Tour’s biggest stars to China for the final ATP Masters 1000 event of the Asian swing.

The main draw will be played from October 7 to 18, 2026, at the Qi Zhong Tennis Center in Shanghai, with qualifying taking place on October 5 and 6. The tournament features a 96-player singles draw and a 32-team doubles draw on outdoor hard courts.

Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, Ben Shelton, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Daniil Medvedev, Flavio Cobolli and defending champion Valentin Vacherot are among the leading names expected to compete. China’s Buyunchaokete, Wu Yibing and Zhang Zhizhen will lead the home challenge.

One major star, however, will be missing. World No. 1 Jannik Sinner withdrew from Shanghai on October 3 as he continues his recovery from a knee injury. Sinner has not played since winning Wimbledon in July and also missed the North American hard-court swing and the ATP 500 in Beijing.

Here is everything you need to know about the 2026 Shanghai Masters, including the latest entry list, dates, draw, prize money, ranking points, defending champions, tournament records and how to watch.

Chinese Players to Watch

The home challenge will be led by:

  • Buyunchaokete
  • Wu Yibing
  • Zhang Zhizhen

Zhang has already made history at his home Masters 1000. He became the first Chinese player to reach the Round of 16 in Shanghai, doing so in 2023.

The final 96-player field may still change before the draw because of withdrawals, qualifiers and other late changes.

Jannik Sinner Withdraws From Shanghai

Jannik Sinner will not play the 2026 Shanghai Masters.

The Italian officially withdrew on October 3, saying he would not be able to return to Shanghai as he had hoped. His ongoing knee problem has kept him out of competition since Wimbledon in July.

Sinner also missed the entire North American hard-court swing, including the US Open, before withdrawing from the China Open in Beijing.

His absence is significant because Sinner won the 2024 Shanghai Masters, defeating Novak Djokovic in the final.

The World No. 1 had compiled a 44-3 record in 2026 before his layoff. Earlier in the season, he won Masters 1000 titles at Indian Wells, Miami, Monte-Carlo, Madrid and Rome before claiming Wimbledon.

With Sinner out, Shanghai will have a different champion from the player who lifted the trophy in 2024, while 2025 champion Valentin Vacherot returns as the defending champion.

How to Watch the Shanghai Masters 2026

Matches from the Shanghai Masters will be available through Tennis TV, the ATP Tour’s official streaming service, in supported markets.

Television broadcasters vary by country and region, so international viewers should also check ATP’s official TV listings for coverage in their market. ATP’s official tournament preview lists Tennis TV and the ATP TV schedule as the main international viewing resources.

Who Won the Shanghai Masters in 2025?

The 2025 Shanghai Masters produced one of the most surprising ATP Masters 1000 title runs in recent history.

Qualifier Valentin Vacherot defeated his cousin Arthur Rinderknech 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the singles final. Vacherot entered the tournament ranked World No. 204 and became the lowest-ranked ATP Masters 1000 champion in history.

The title was particularly remarkable because Vacherot had started the tournament in qualifying before going all the way to the championship.

In doubles, Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz defeated Andre Goransson and Alex Michelsen 6-4, 6-4 to win the 2025 title.

Vacherot therefore returns to Shanghai in 2026 as the defending singles champion.

Djokovic’s four titles came in 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2018, making him the most successful singles player in tournament history. The official Shanghai tournament site also credits him with a record 43 match wins.

A Major Finish to the ATP Asian Swing

Shanghai is the biggest ATP tournament of the Asian swing and the only Masters 1000 event in Asia. It follows the ATP 500 tournaments in Beijing and Tokyo and offers players up to 1,000 ranking points at an important stage of the race to the season-ending Nitto ATP Finals.

The 2026 edition has several major storylines before the draw is even made. Vacherot returns as defending champion, Djokovic chases a fifth Shanghai title, Alcaraz is looking for his first trophy at the event, and Zverev leads another deep field.

Sinner’s withdrawal removes the 2024 champion from the tournament, but Shanghai will still feature one of the strongest fields of the Asian swing when the main draw begins on October 7.
